The door of modern washing machines closes automatically when you start the washing program or any other operation (draining, spinning). There are situations when the automation fails – in particular, the door does not open after the end of the washing cycle. Consider the main reasons why this may happen and how to fix the problem.

The first thing to understand is whether the blocked door can not be opened as a result of program failure or because of a breakdown of the washing machine itself. In some cases, the problem is solved independently, in others – you will need to turn to a service center.

The door is blocked in the washing machine – a normal situation

Most automatic washing machines do not immediately unlock the hatch after the end of washing. To fully unlock in such cases, you need to wait 1-5 minutes and the machine will open the hatch.

In such models, as a rule, there is a sound signal, notifying the end of the washing and opening of the door. If after the beep the door has not opened, and there is water in the drum, you should look for more serious problems.

To begin with, do the following steps:

Turn off the power to the unit. Quite often electric appliances “wobble” because of power fluctuations. Turn off the machine from the 220V mains, wait a few minutes and turn it on again. During this time, the device will restart and unlock the hatch.

  1. If there is water left in the drum, the device will not unlock the door until you drain it. To do this, you must open the drain hatch, which is located at the bottom of the housing. If after resetting and draining the water the hatch does not unlock, you will have to open the door in an emergency.

Emergency hatch opening

Emergency methods of opening the hatch are simple but effective and do not cause the unit to break down.

  1. Starting a new washing program.

When the machine has stopped with no water inside, but the door has not opened, try starting a new wash, rinse or drain cycle. When restarting, the door should unlock and lock again. Do not miss the click and open the hatch and cancel the program.

The emergency hatch release cable.

Most washing machines have an emergency opening cable, which is located near the drain hole under the plastic cover. It has a bright color. Pulling it will open the door.

  1. using rope, and wire.

In the absence of a cable, an ordinary rope or wire will help open the hatch. The main thing is that the device could fit through the hole in the lock on the door.

The rope should be behind the closed hatch in the lock area so that the free ends are located on the side opposite the lock. Then you need to pull to the side by the ends, moving parallel to the lid. The loop, which is formed on the rope, will catch on the tongue of the lock, pull it and open the hatch.

  1. Removing the washing machine cover.

If you remove the top cover of the machine by unscrewing carefully the two bolts in the body, you will get access to the lock. Press the locking hook and the hatch will unlock.

  1. The door lock device has failed.

If the door locking device has broken, no repair will help. In this case, you will have to disassemble the machine and buy new parts. First remove the entire door, hinges, and hook. New mechanisms are bought and installed in place of the old ones. The cause of the breakdown of the hatch locking device is overheating or jamming.

If you have tried all 5 ways, but to open the hatch and still failed, then it is advisable to contact the service center so that professional masters were able to fix the problem without damaging the washing machine. Call or book now Oceanside Appliance Repair
