Whirlpool is a well-known brand when it comes down to appliances, and their refrigerators are some of the best. However, once it stops cooling down, what do we have to do?

Insufficient cooling
The cause may be a poorly setup thermostat. The outside air temperature changes throughout the year, and this affects the refrigerator’s ability to transfer heat from indoors to outside. Therefore, it can happen that if you set the thermostat to a certain position in winter, the refrigerator will not cool the food to the desired temperature when the warm weather comes in spring and summer.

This may also be due to its location near a heat source. This can be a radiator, a stove, but also a dishwasher or the sun’s rays. The ideal position of the fridge is therefore in the shade and well away from these heat sources.

Don’t forget to keep enough distance from surrounding objects and walls to allow air to flow freely around the condenser. Manufacturers recommend a minimum distance of 5 cm from the back and 2 cm from the right and left.

The condenser is easily clogged with dust due to the grille, which again prevents air flow. The consequence is increased stress on the compressor and overheating of the refrigerator from the rear. You should therefore vacuum the rear once every two years or clean the dust mechanically with a brush.

The evaporator is located on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment and cools the compartment. By placing large pieces of food or containers close to the back, you prevent cold air from flowing inside and entering the entire fridge compartment.

When it doesn’t cool at all. If you unplug your refrigerator (for example, during a power outage or when washing the refrigerator) and plug it back in, it may take some time for the thermostat to restart. Therefore, the refrigerator may start cooling a few minutes after it is turned on. If the compressor does not turn on even after a longer time, check if the light bulb (or lights) inside is on. If it is not lit, the refrigerator may not be getting any power at all, for example, because the power cable is damaged. This often happens when the refrigerator is moved.
