WHY THE DEFROST DOES NOT WORK IN A NO-FROST FRIDGE

No Frost refrigerators do not need to be defrosted. This is possible thanks to the defrosting system: there is a heating element in the evaporator. As a thin layer of frost forms on the evaporator, the system turns on the heating element, and the ice melts. Water flows through a special channel into a tub on the compressor, where it evaporates. The cold chamber in such refrigerators is cooled by a fan, which drives the cold air from the single evaporator in the freezer through special channels into the compartment.

If you have looked into the freezer and saw the “snow coat”, and at the same time it is suspiciously warm in the refrigerating chamber, the cause is most likely in the defrost system failure and your refrigerator “is No Frost anymore”. The ducts that used to carry the cold air from the evaporator to the fridge compartment during normal refrigerator operation have frozen, which is why the fridge compartment has stopped cooling.

It should be noted that when the refrigerator is completely defrosted (for at least 12 hours), it starts functioning normally: the temperature in both compartments is maintained at the set value. But in one or two weeks the situation repeats: it becomes warm in the refrigerating chamber and in the freezer a snow “fur coat” is formed.

Possible faults requiring repair

If in the freezer of your Know Frost appeared frosting and the temperature in the refrigerating compartment is higher than preset, the reason is probably the breakage of defrosting system. According to the experience of specialists of Appliance Repair Oceanside, the following units can break down.

Defrost sensor burned out

The defrost sensor measures the temperature in the No Frost evaporator, and according to its data, the timer turns the defrost on and off in the refrigerator. If the defroster fails, defrost does not turn on, the No Frost evaporator and air ducts that used to bring cold air into the fridge compartment become frozen and the fridge compartment becomes warm.

Fuse blown

A fuse is an “emergency way” to turn off the defrost heating element if, for some reason, the defroster or defrost timer fails to work. The fuse melts, thus opening the circuit.

Defrost timer malfunction

On the defroster command, the timer starts and stops the defrost timer. Electromechanical timers often have burned contacts, the motor fails, or the program gear jams. In electronic timers, the timer chip burns out. If the timer fails, the evaporator heater does not turn on, and the freezer gets overgrown with ice. Refrigerating chamber ceases to cool because the channels of cold air intake into it are frozen.

Defrost heating element burned out

The heating coil burned out or the Fuser housing burned through.

Control module defective

Probably as the result of power jumps probably burned out some electric elements in it or burned out tracks that are responsible for defrosting system functioning. Also, moisture can oxidize the tracks or contacts of the radio elements.
