When choosing a refrigerator, the question often arises: “How many compressors are needed for the normal operation of the refrigerator?”.

If there are devices with one compressor on sale, then why overpay for equipment with two compressors? Let’s first understand what a refrigerator compressor is and what it is needed for. The main task of such a part as a compressor is to ensure the normal circulation of refrigerant in the refrigerating chamber. Actually, due to such circulation, the required temperature value in the chamber for food storage is achieved. Based on this, we can conclude that the efficiency of the refrigerator directly depends on the quality of the compressor.

Cooling in the refrigerator is due to the fact that the compressor takes the refrigerant vapor from the evaporator and transfers it to the condenser. Electricity consumption and compressor power vary depending on the type of technology used in the operation of the equipment. Refrigerators can be single-compressor, two-compressor, and even three-compressor. As you already understood, the compressor is an integral part of any refrigerator, so no refrigerator can work without such a mechanism.

As a rule, one compressor can be installed only in single-chamber refrigerators of small dimensions, but there are also two-chamber refrigerators with only one compressor. Single-compressor models of refrigerators are very economical because they consume little electricity and accordingly cost much less than other models of such equipment. But, unfortunately, in their functionality, such models are much weaker than two-compressor refrigerators. However, it is also impossible to attribute single-compressor refrigerators to the economy class, because some of these models are very powerful devices.

Two-compressor refrigerators, as a rule, are two-chamber refrigerators with good functionality. Each of the chambers has its own separate compressor. Such refrigerators are not cheap, so not everyone can afford them. Their advantages are not only in two compressors but also in a number of other factors: the number of functions and cooling circuits, etc. Due to the fact that each chamber has its own compressor, the user can independently adjust the temperature value in one of the chambers and turn it off if necessary. If one of the compartments fails, the other can continue to work normally. But, please note that not all refrigerators with built-in two compressors can turn off one of the chambers, in turn, so consult with managers about this.

Refrigerators with three compressors are considered not so popular. In addition to two chambers, such devices may also have a freshness zone or a wine cabinet, for which an additional compressor is needed.

So, as you can see, the refrigerator can do its job efficiently with one compressor. The presence of more than one compressor is like an additional function that users can do without, so it’s up to you to decide.
