Reasons why the washing machine vibrates, jumps, shakes

Weakening of fastening or destruction of the counterweight

If the machine jumps when washing, or shakes while wringing things – most likely, the counterweight is damaged or the bolts that fix the drum to the tank pulley have loosened.

The counterweight is a concrete or plastic block designed to balance the washing machine. The block prevents vibration, thereby ensuring the stability of the device. Washing machines are most often equipped with concrete counterweights. Such structures are destroyed regardless of the material: they crack and crumble.

Fasteners loosen over time. Because of this, the washing machine vibrates and knocks. Loose fasteners are the result of unevenly loaded laundry.

WARNING! Increased vibrations and shaking of the machine reduce the wear resistance of other parts, which leads to the breakdown of the equipment.

To deal with the problem, disassemble the case and tighten the mounting bolts or replace them. It will not be possible to repair a cracked counterweight – it is better to immediately contact a repairman who will replace the weighted block.

Failure of shock absorbers

Either shock absorbers or dampers are installed on washing machines. The first ones are designed for a certain effort intended for a specific device model. A stretched shock absorber leads to an increase in the vibration of the washing machine while it spins the laundry.

A type of damping part – dampers. They do not have their own “travel”: unlike conventional shock absorbers, the “travel” is provided by a moving tube or plate, which is attached to the tank in covers made of plastic. The role of fasteners is played by metal rods whose shape resembles “P”. It is the tight-fitting plates or cladding tubes that cause the malfunction: over time, they “move away” from the tank of the machine.

What shall I do?

Shock absorbers. They are usually not tightened, but changed: these components are attached using bushings made of plastic, equipped with latches or bolts: one end is attached to the bottom of the case, the other – to the tank.

Lifehack: To access the shock absorbers, remove the back or front of the washing machine trim. Check whether the shock absorbers of the washing machine are working: disconnect one of the ends of the fastener: “easy movement” – malfunction. A tight “spring” is fine.

To dismantle the damping components, unscrew the nuts and remove the bolts; or “press” the latches and remove the bushings. Put the new parts and screw everything back.

Damper linings are also changed. To do this, disconnect the damper from the wall of the machine: unscrew the screws, and remove the part from the mount. It is necessary to remove broken, cracked cladding and install new ones.

To install the replacement, you will need to squeeze the mounting rods. One must be fixed with something heavy or simply put your foot on it, and the second – move aside with one hand. On the other hand, you need to insert the parts between the cladding rods, and give the rods of the U-shaped rod a break: they will bend back.

Then the damper is put back, and the body is assembled.

The actions suggested in the article help to reduce vibration when the washing machine is running. It is important to remember that when disassembling the equipment and changing parts without a master, the owner risks the device being left without warranty service, so it is better to perform them on a device whose warranty has expired. You can repair the washing machine yourself, the main thing is to work carefully and buy parts that match the model. Doubt? – Contact professionals.
