What happened to the refrigerator if the freezer suddenly stopped freezing? In general, the main complaint of our Oceanside refrigerator repair customers is that the freezer doesn’t cool. The freezer does not freeze is quite a rare breakdown. It is connected to the technological feature of the cooling circuit.

In the standard fridge device, all the cooling goes from the freezing chamber. It is extremely rare to find a non-working freezer in a drip single-compressor refrigerator but at the same time a well-functioning refrigerating chamber.

Technologically it is possible in rare cases. Most likely, the owners did not immediately see that the refrigerator compartment similarly stops cooling, i.e. the breakdown is a general failure of the cooling system.

But in No Frost (dry freezing) systems, a freezer compartment not working properly is more common in some products. For example, Whirlpool refrigerators will suffer a poorly functioning freezer compartment if the freezer sensor does not work. A characteristic sound announcing an error is not uncommon in this case.

Dual-compressor refrigerator.

As mentioned earlier, a single-compressor refrigerator almost never suffers from a non-functioning freezer. Given that modern refrigerators, it is mainly two-compartment products, their work is often provided by two compressors.

The motors in such products are much smaller in size, as they have less power. The pluses are more stable cooling of the refrigerating chamber.

Freon leakage

Each chamber is equipped with its own circuit. Exactly for this reason the freezing chamber will not cool if there is a leak of the refrigerant – freon on the contour of the freezer.

Faulty starting relay

Similarly, the freezer will not give the required temperature in case the starting relay of the compressor motor has failed. When you unwrap the refrigerator, you will see two barrels – the compressors. If one of them is completely cold, there is a problem with the compressor starting.

Faulty freezer thermostat

You will realize that the thermostat is defective when the freezer temperature rises to -3-5 degrees (although it should be at least -18) and the compressor will start very rarely. In this case, you will need to replace the freezer compressor starting relay.

The motor compressor is defective

The motor can not start also in case of problems with the primary winding. Unfortunately, repair of such a breakdown is not provided by compressor manufacturers. There is no possibility of its disassembly. Although in the former Soviet space, in view of the then deficit, and today to save money, a galaxy of specialists who cut the compressor, make replacement of the winding, and then weld the two parts of the case have grown.

Such a repair is liquid only if the unit is no longer on sale. The optimal repair is to replace the compressor with a new one with a warranty from the manufacturer.

Single-compressor refrigerator

Given that single-compressor refrigerators have a single circuit, a non-functioning freezer is, in most cases, inseparably linked to a non-cooling refrigerator compartment. Nevertheless, there are breakdowns that result in a non-functioning freezer compartment.

If you still did not manage to recognize the cause of this breakdown by all the points provided above, or if you do not want to waste time guessing, North Country Appliance Repair Service is always happy to help you and offer a professional diagnosis and repair of your refrigerator in a timely manner.
