Your refrigerator makes a buzzing sound but does not cool, often freezes, or accumulates water. Some problems require you to call North Country Appliance Repair Company, but others you can fix yourself. Read on to find out how to do it.

If your dishwasher, washing machine or refrigerator breaks, always study the manual first. Manufacturers often list the most common malfunctions and how to fix them. You can fix most of them yourself, such as a refrigerator door leaking due to frost. But sometimes you will not read the most important things in the manual. So, what to do if…

Water Pooling At The Bottom or Underneath My Fridge

This problem is caused by condensation. The water in your refrigerator has nowhere to go, so it either freezes or drains to the bottom of the refrigerator. More often than not, condensation is caused by:

  • caused by storing hot foods,
  • worn seals that cause the door to leak;
  • or by storing high humidity foods such as fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and dairy products.

If you don’t want to constantly defrost your refrigerator and wipe up water on the shelves, check the seals first. If they are worn, replace them.

If you are in the market for a new refrigerator, you can easily avoid this problem. Choose a refrigerator with the No Frost feature, which prevents ice from forming on the surface of the refrigerator or freezer compartment. Water drains to the bottom, where it flows out through a hole in the collection container and then evaporates.

If you have a refrigerator with the No Frost system, but water is still forming under or in the refrigerator, it probably clogged the drain tube on the evaporator. Simply use the brush that comes with the refrigerator to clean it.

Another option is a refrigerator with a humidity-controlled drawer. Manufacturers call them BioFresh or HydroSafe, for example. This is where food with a high moisture content is stored.

If the airtightness is good and you’re not planning to buy a new refrigerator, store fruits, vegetables and meat in food cans or in covered compartments designed for that purpose. This will reduce the humidity in the refrigerator a little.
